Latin name – Monarda punctata
Spotted Bee Balm, also known as Dotted Horsemint, is a Florida native perennial wildflower. Its colorful and aromatic pink purple blooms attract a multitude of pollinators during the late spring through the fall. This plant is edible and can be brewed into a mild, relaxing tea. Spotted Bee Balm is high in thymol which has anti microbial, anti fungal, and antiseptic properties. It has historically been used to treat ringworm and hookworm.
Plant it in full to partial sun and in dry to moist well draining soils. It can reach 2-4 feet tall and readily reseeds itself.
