Description

Red Currant (Ribes rubrum) is an unidentified cultivar propagated from shrubs planted more than twenty years ago on a farm in southern Manitoba. The old plants remain healthy and productive.

Clusters of bright red berries ripen in summer. The 0.5 to 1 cm fruit has a tangy, tart flavour suited to jam, jelly, sauces, and desserts. Shrubs grow in sun or partial shade, with heavier crops in brighter sites.
