Description
Bolshaya, meaning large in Russian, is a round green Ussurian pear evaluated by the South Ural Research Institute of Fruit and Vegetable Growing. It is considered one of the hardier Russian pears and has only recently become available in North America.
The fruit weighs about 80 to 90 g and has a sweet flavour with slight tartness. It ripens from early to mid September and can keep for as long as three months when picked slightly green. Trees are described as productive and resistant to fire blight.
