Description
American Hazelnut (Corylus americana) is a deciduous shrub native to eastern North America. It produces edible nuts inside distinctive bristly husks that ripen from late summer into early fall. The nuts are also an important food for wildlife.
Indigenous peoples and early settlers ate the nuts whole or ground them into meal. Our seedlings come from nuts collected around the nursery, where gathering them before the squirrels is always a race.
