Description
Latin name – Tithonia diversifolia
We consider this the ultimate chop n drop plant in the food forest – Mexican Sunflowers. They can easily grow 12-15ft tall and withstand heavy pruning multiple times a year. Chop it and then use the biomass to mulch your food forest! It makes an excellent privacy hedge, although, your hedge will not be so private each time you chop it. But the good news is that it will quickly grow back so you won’t need to see your neighbors again for another 4 months. The blooms are sweet smelling and loved by all pollinators. Plant in full sun and plan to cut it back every 4-6 months.
