Description
Common Barberry (Berberis vulgaris) is a thorny deciduous shrub with tart red berries used in jam, jelly, and savoury dishes. The fruit also attracts birds and other wildlife.
Clusters of yellow flowers open in spring. The dense shrub can be grown as a hedge or barrier and has a long history in traditional medicine.
