Description
Broadleaf sage is a hardy perennial herb with soft gray-green leaves, sturdy stems, and a deep savory fragrance. Long grown in kitchen and traditional herb gardens, sage brings its familiar flavor to stuffing, beans, browned butter, roasted meats, winter squash, and hearty cold-weather cooking.
The plants form handsome, woody mounds and produce purple-blue flowers that pollinators enjoy when left to bloom. Harvest leaves lightly the first year, then gather more generously as plants mature; a little sage goes far, but a good patch is worth having.
