Description
Black Chokeberry (Aronia melanocarpa) is a hardy shrub with edible dark berries. The astringent fruit is usually processed into wine, jam, syrup, juice, tea, sauces, or preserves rather than eaten fresh.
These seeds were collected locally in Manitoba. Black Chokeberry can also be used as a compatible rootstock for pear grafting.
Soaking the seed for 24 hours before cold stratification helps soften the seed coat.
