Description
Birdhouse gourd grows long, vigorous vines that set hard-shelled gourds with rounded bodies and narrow necks, the classic shape used for handmade birdhouses. While not grown for eating, this old utility crop has a long place in garden craft, homestead projects, and autumn displays.
Give the vines a strong trellis or plenty of ground room, then allow the gourds to mature and dry fully after harvest. Once cured, they can be cleaned, drilled, painted, and turned into shelters, ornaments, or simple useful objects from the garden.
